Overview
What is Voxcribe?
Voxcribe is an online video-to-text transcriber that runs in a web browser. It converts common video and audio files into text transcripts with timestamps and lets users edit the transcript alongside audio playback. The product is positioned around privacy: the video file is read locally in the browser and never uploaded, while only the extracted audio track is sent for transcription. Voxcribe is aimed at people who need searchable notes or subtitles from their own recordings, including meetings, interviews, lectures, podcasts and YouTube videos. A first file up to 10 minutes can be transcribed without an account; a free account includes 120 minutes per month.
How Voxcribe works
Users drop an MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG or FLAC file into the browser. Voxcribe extracts the audio track locally, so the video itself is not uploaded and multi-GB recordings can start faster because only a fraction of the file size is transmitted. The audio is uploaded encrypted. Language can be detected automatically or selected manually; the pages mention English, Portuguese, Spanish and other languages, and say the first re-run is free if the language guess is wrong. Transcription runs on Voxcribe's side, and users can close the tab while it completes. The transcript then appears in history. In the editor, every line is linked to its moment in the audio: clicking a line plays from there, and edits to names or terms are saved automatically. TXT export and copy are available on the free tier; SRT, VTT and DOCX exports require a paid plan.
Main features
- Format support: MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV and AVI for video; MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG and FLAC for audio.
- Local audio extraction: the video file stays on the device; only the audio track is uploaded.
- Timestamps: every line can show or hide timestamps, including in TXT exports.
- Timestamp-linked editor: click a line to hear that section and edit the text in place with autosave.
- Automatic language detection: English, Portuguese, Spanish and others; first re-run free if detection is wrong.
- Subtitle-ready exports: SRT and VTT follow subtitle rules of at most two lines, 42 characters and 1–7 seconds, for use in Premiere or YouTube.
- History: transcripts wait in history; free history is kept for 30 days, paid history forever.
- Batch upload: available on Pro and Business. Priority queue: available from Starter upward.
- Privacy: audio is deleted after 7 days; Voxcribe says it does not train on the audio, and transcription providers are contractually barred from doing so.
Pricing
Voxcribe has a free tier and three paid subscription tiers, plus a one-time minute pack.
- Free — $0, no card needed. Includes 120 minutes per month, files up to 30 minutes, 3 files per day, the timestamp-linked editor and TXT export. Transcript history is kept for 30 days. The first file up to 10 minutes can be transcribed without an account.
- Starter — $9/month, or $6/month billed annually at $72/year. Includes 1,200 minutes per month, files up to 3 hours, SRT/VTT/DOCX exports, priority queue and transcript history kept forever.
- Pro — $19/month, or $12/month billed annually at $144/year. Includes 3,000 minutes per month, files up to 10 hours and batch upload.
- Business — $29/month, or $18/month billed annually at $216/year. Includes 6,000 minutes per month, files up to 10 hours, batch upload and first access to new features.
- Minute pack — 300 minutes for a one-time $5, valid for 12 months, with files up to 3 hours and every export format. Pack minutes are used after monthly minutes. Minutes are counted by the length of audio actually transcribed, to the second. Failed or empty transcriptions are refunded automatically, and reopening a file already transcribed is free. Monthly minutes reset each billing cycle. If a file is longer than the plan allows, Voxcribe transcribes up to the limit and lets the user continue after upgrading or buying a pack. Upgrades apply immediately; downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the billing period. A full refund is available within 7 days of the first subscription purchase if no more than 30 minutes have been used; an unused minute pack can be refunded within 14 days.
Common use cases
Voxcribe is designed for users' own recordings. Meetings and Zoom recordings can become searchable notes instead of hour-long replays. Interviews can be quoted accurately because every line carries a timestamp. Lectures and courses can be studied from text rather than scrubbing through video. Podcasts and YouTube videos can produce show notes and SRT subtitles from the master file. The editor is useful when names, technical terms or acronyms need correction before export.
Limitations
Direct YouTube link import is marked "coming soon" and is not available. SRT, VTT and DOCX exports are not included on the free tier, and batch upload is limited to Pro and Business. Audio playback is kept for 7 days on all plans, even paid plans, while free transcript history lasts 30 days. Monthly minutes do not roll over; only minute-pack minutes last 12 months. Transcription is server-side after audio upload, so the process is not fully offline, and only the audio track receives the privacy protection described. The pages do not describe speaker diarization, collaboration features or third-party integrations.
Summary
Voxcribe is a browser-based video and audio transcription tool centered on local audio extraction, timestamped editing and subtitle-ready exports. Its free tier provides a usable entry point with TXT export, while paid plans add longer files, more minutes, SRT/VTT/DOCX exports, priority processing and batch upload. It is best suited to individuals and teams transcribing their own meetings, interviews, lectures and media files who value keeping the original video on their device.
