Overview
What is MarkAny?
MarkAny is a browser-based Markdown converter that handles both directions of the format gap. Files to Markdown: it accepts PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, PowerPoint, images, HTML, and EPUB, or pasted text and a public HTTPS URL, and produces editable Markdown that preserves headings, lists, tables, links, and images. Markdown to files: it takes pasted Markdown, an uploaded .md file, or a ZIP with images and renders it into PDF, Word, HTML, PNG, JPG, WebP, EPUB, PPTX, or XLSX.
The stated use cases are documentation-flavored: publishing drafts as blog posts, building AI-ready research libraries, migrating legacy handbooks and slides to documentation sites, handing Markdown briefs to Word users, and producing several formats from one Markdown source. The footer shows only a 2026 copyright; no company name, country, or launch date is published.
How MarkAny Works
The to-Markdown direction is drag-and-drop: drop up to five files (50 MB each, 250 MB per batch) or paste a public URL, and conversion starts automatically. Scanned PDFs and images go through automatic OCR with no language selection needed. Each file shows its own status — waiting, converting, completed, needs-review, failed, or cancelled — and failed items can be retried individually without losing successful ones. Results can be copied, downloaded as .md, or downloaded as a ZIP bundling the Markdown with extracted images.
The from-Markdown direction runs in the opposite order: paste Markdown, open an .md file, import a ZIP with images, or fetch a URL, edit the content in a formatted preview, then download in one of nine formats. Paste-to-Markdown conversion and Markdown editing happen locally in the browser; file conversion runs on cloud infrastructure. Exports use neutral styling with no MarkAny branding, and PDF and Word exports offer font and color theme options.
Main Features
- Bidirectional conversion — documents and images into Markdown, and Markdown into PDF, Word, HTML, PNG, JPG, WebP, EPUB, PPTX, and XLSX.
- Automatic OCR — scanned PDFs and images are recognized without manual language selection.
- Batch processing — up to five files per batch with per-file status tracking and individual retry.
- Structure mapping — headings, lists, tables, links, and images are carried into the Markdown output.
- ZIP downloads — Markdown plus extracted images in one archive, ready for static-site workflows.
- Neutral, styled exports — unbranded document output with font and color theme options for PDF and Word.
Pricing
MarkAny uses a small free tier plus one subscription. New accounts receive 5 free conversions, shared across both directions, with no credit card required. Pro Monthly costs $9.00 USD per month and Pro Yearly costs $4.10 USD per month, billed as $49 per year (advertised as about 50 percent savings); both remove the conversion limit while keeping the same file limits of 50 MB per file and batches of five, and both can be cancelled anytime. One-off pay-as-you-go credit packs are listed as coming soon and are not yet available.
Common Use Cases
- Publishing workflows — converting drafted documents into Markdown for blogs and documentation sites.
- AI-ready corpora — turning PDFs and slide decks into clean Markdown text for research libraries and RAG pipelines.
- Legacy migration — moving old handbooks, manuals, and slides into a docs system.
- Cross-team handoff — giving Word users formatted DOCX or PDF generated from a Markdown source.
- Multi-format output — producing PDF, HTML, PNG, PPTX, XLSX, and EPUB from a single Markdown file.
Limitations
MarkAny is explicit that completed means processing ended, not that accuracy is verified: complex layouts, multi-column pages, merged cells, and scanned tables need human review, and the interface itself flags outputs as needs-review when appropriate. Only two conversions run simultaneously, and batches cap at five files of 50 MB each. On privacy, the site publishes no guaranteed deletion timeframe for uploaded files and tells users not to upload confidential, sensitive, or regulated material — file conversion happens on cloud infrastructure, though CSV and pasted-text conversion run locally. In the Markdown-to-document direction, exports do not fetch remote images, and page breaks, footnotes, and custom Word styles may need checking after export.
Summary
MarkAny is a practical two-way Markdown bridge with honest documentation: automatic OCR, batch handling, and nine export formats cover the common document-to-Markdown and Markdown-to-document loops, and the Pro price is low. The trade-offs are a small free tier, cloud processing of uploads with no deletion guarantee, and outputs that still need review on complex layouts. For public or low-sensitivity documents, it is a straightforward utility; for confidential material, the site itself says to look elsewhere.
