Overview
AI for Database is a browser-based product at aifordatabase.com that lets people ask questions of their live databases and spreadsheets in plain English, then turn the answers into dashboards, reports and automated workflows. The site positions it for "teams without a data team" and promises "No SQL, ever."
What is AI for Database?
AI for Database is a tool for querying, reporting on and acting on business data without writing SQL. Its own shorthand is "Ask my database anything. In plain English." Answers are drawn from the live database or spreadsheet rather than a copy, and each answer is presented as a reusable artifact: the vendor's phrasing is that "every answer ships with its receipt," which can be pinned to a dashboard, watched or automated.
The stated audience is sales managers, operations teams, product managers and founders — teams that need data but do not have a dedicated data function. Rather than describing itself as a chatbot, the product describes itself as "an operating layer for the business," covering questions, reporting and workflow execution on one surface.
How AI for Database works
The documentation sets out three steps: Connect, Query, Automate.
Connect. Supported sources named on the product pages are PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, SQL Server and Google Sheets. The documentation also covers MariaDB, MongoDB Atlas, Azure SQL and Amazon RDS SQL Server, plus connection troubleshooting for timeouts, SSL errors, permission denials and firewall blocks. Connections are read-only by default, and the docs describe read-only access, SSL configuration and SSH tunnels.
Query. Users ask a question in natural language; the system translates it into SQL — or, for MongoDB, into an aggregation pipeline. The generated SQL is viewable next to the result via a "View SQL" control. A example shown on the home page returns a refund-spike answer labelled with "3 TABLES · 48,201 ROWS · 1.24S". Follow-up questions and exports to Sheets or CSV are supported, and query history can be searched, re-run, favourited or shared.
Automate. Any answer can be pinned to a dashboard or turned into a workflow. Workflows are written as plain sentences of conditions and actions rather than node graphs; the site's example reads "When inventory for any SKU drops below 10 units, email operations with the reorder list," annotated as "checked hourly · dry-run first · every fire logged."
Main features
- Ask: natural-language queries, follow-up questions, export to Google Sheets, CSV (and JSON per docs), query history, and advanced options including parameterized queries, variables, cross-database joins and scheduled queries.
- Build: one-click dashboards and reports generated from answers, with widget types including metric cards, tables, bar, line and pie charts and text blocks; scheduled reports; sharing by link, embed, email digest or Slack.
- Act: database-driven workflows and alerts with Slack alerts, email notifications, webhook triggers and CRM updates. Workflows are listed as unlimited on both Pro and Team.
- Admin: team invites and role-based access, per-user connection assignments, per-user usage tracking and audit logs, listed across Pro, Team and Enterprise.
- Integrations: the site lists PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, SQL Server, SQLite, Oracle, Redis, Firebase, Google Sheets, Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot, Notion, Airtable, AWS, Azure, GCP and self-hosted as part of "your existing stack."
Pricing
Pro costs $20 per user per month when billed monthly and Team costs $50 per user per month. Annual billing is advertised as saving 20%. Each payment becomes that user's credit balance in full — $20 on Pro, $50 on Team — and credits do not expire, with no weekly limits or monthly resets. Top-ups of $10, $25, $50 or $100 are available, and AI usage pauses when a balance runs out. Team includes everything in Pro plus 2.5× the credit funding per user and individual credit balances for team members. Enterprise is custom, with usage, seat, SSO, security, deployment and support commitments agreed in contract; self-hosting is offered separately. Prices and credits are per user and exclude applicable taxes.
Common use cases
The site's worked examples map to four roles. Sales managers ask which deals are stuck for 14+ days and get a table, chart and weekly report, with the deal owner notified in Slack. Operations teams ask which SKUs are running low, get an inventory dashboard and email the operations team. Product managers analyse which features drive retention and sync insights to a roadmap. Founders and GMs ask about cash runway. Other illustrated flows include refund-spike anomaly charts that alert finance, churn-prediction tables synced to a CRM, and stuck-deal pipeline reports that create Slack reminders.
Limitations
- AI usage requires credits. The pricing FAQ states that an account can be created before subscribing, but that AI usage requires credits added through a subscription or top-up, and usage pauses when the individual balance is exhausted.
- The home page advertises a free plan with sample data included, while the pricing page frames access around credits; the precise boundaries of free usage are not fully specified on these pages.
- SSO/SAML is listed as not included on Pro and Team, and is only discussed at Enterprise level.
- No uptime or SLA figures, data-residency details or compliance certifications are stated on the supplied pages.
- The connector list on marketing pages is broader than the documented integration guides; documentation on these pages covers only PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, SQL Server and Google Sheets in depth.
Summary
AI for Database combines natural-language querying, generated dashboards and sentence-style workflow automation over live databases and spreadsheets, with read-only connections by default. Pro and Team are per-user subscriptions whose payments convert into non-expiring individual credits; Enterprise terms and self-hosting are arranged separately.
