Today, we announce Claude 3, our next generation AI model.

These three cutting-edge models - Claude 3 Opus, Claude 3 Sonnet and Claude 3 Haiku - set new industry benchmarks in reasoning, mathematics, coding, multi-language understanding and vision.

Opus and Sonnet are now generally available through our API, and developers can start using these models immediately.

With this launch, users can choose the ideal combination of intelligence, speed, and cost that best suits their use case.

Opus, our smartest model, achieves near-human understanding. It handles open-ended prompts and solves complex tasks deftly.

Haiku is the fastest and most cost-effective model on the market for its smart category.

For the vast majority of workloads, Sonnet is twice as fast as Claude 2 and Claude 2.1, while Opus is about the same speed as past models.

Claude 3 offers sophisticated visual capabilities that rival other leading models. These models can handle a variety of visual formats including photos, charts, graphs and technical drawings.

Each model has enhanced capabilities for analysis and prediction, nuanced content creation, code generation, and conversational conversation in non-English languages such as Spanish, Japanese, and French.

Previous Claude models often made unnecessary rejections. We have made meaningful progress in this area: the Claude 3 model is significantly less likely to refuse to answer prompts that are close to the boundaries of the system.

While the Claude 3 model family has improved over previous generation models in key metrics such as biological knowledge, network-related knowledge, and autonomy, it is still at AI Safety Level 2 (ASL-2) in accordance with our responsible scaling policy.
